Normally Open Brass Solenoid Valves

Choose from our full line of Brass Normally Open Solenoid Valves. These electric valves remain open in the standard position and close when power is applied. Offered in a variety of sizes as well as voltages. We have the largest selection of in-stock normally open valves available, ready to ship today.

What is a Normally Open (NO) Solenoid Valve?

A normally open solenoid valve is a type of valve that remains open when it is not energized, allowing water, liquids, fuel, or gas to flow freely. When power is sent to the valve, an electrical current activates the solenoid coil, creating a magnetic field that lifts the internal plunger, closing the valve and preventing media from passing through.

Normally Closed vs. Normally Open Valves

The same size normally closed and normally open solenoid valves may look exactly the same, but their default position inside of the valve makes the difference. Normally closed (NC) valves remain closed, blocking flow, until energized to open. Normally open (NO) valves remain open, allowing flow, until energized to close.

When to Use a N/O Solenoid Valve

Normally open solenoid valves are installed in systems where continuous flow is required. If you’re unsure whether you need a normally closed or normally open valve, consider how long you need the valve to be open versus closed. If you need the valve to be open for a longer time than you need it to be closed, then you likely need a solenoid valve that is normally open. Our valve experts are available to answer your questions and offer assistance should you need it.

When to Use a Brass Valve

Solenoid valves are manufactured using different materials, like stainless steel and brass. Brass solenoid valves are commonly used in industries like plumbing, chemical processing, and industrial manufacturing for the following features:

  • Durability: Brass is a durable material that withstands wear and tear, giving you a quality valve that lasts long-term.
  • Corrosion Resistance: Brass offers excellent resistance to corrosion in various environments, particularly against water and non-corrosive liquids.
  • Versatility: These valves are suitable for handling fluids like water*, air, gas, fuel, and certain oils, and they can handle a range of pressures and temperatures.
  • Affordability: Compared to other solenoid valve materials, brass is a cost-effective solution.

*For drinking water, stainless steel solenoid valves are recommended
