Electric Ball Valves

Electric Motorized Ball Valves

Electric motorized ball valves, also known as electrically actuated ball valves, combine a quarter-turn ball valve with an electric actuator to automate the control of water, liquids, air, and compatible gases. These automated valves provide reliable remote operation while maintaining the high flow capacity and low pressure drop that make full-port ball valves one of the most popular valve types for residential, commercial, and industrial systems.

Unlike manual options, an electric actuator rotates the valve automatically upon receiving a control signal. This allow users to seamlessly integrate the valve into automated flow control applications, remote water shutoff systems, irrigation automation, smart home water controls, equipment isolation, and utility lines.

Our electric ball valves are available in durable brass, lead-free stainless steel, and corrosion-resistant UPVC configurations. They feature versatile voltage options (9-24V AC/DC and 110-230V AC), IP67-rated weather-proof enclosures, and both 2-wire auto return and 3-wire control models to suit a wide range of piping requirements.

Why Choose an Electrically Actuated Ball Valve?

An electrically actuated ball valve offers several distinct advantages over traditional automated valve designs, such as solenoid valves:

  • High Flow Capacity & Greater Cv: Motorized ball valves feature a full-port design providing an unobstructed flow path. This supports larger flow volumes and higher flow coefficients (Cv) than comparable solenoid valves, making them an excellent choice for water distribution, process equipment, and high-volume utility control.

  • Reduced Water Hammer: Featuring a steady 4-to-15 second opening and closing cycle (depending on valve size), the controlled action of an electric actuator mitigates destructive water hammer. This protects your piping system and connected equipment from sudden pressure spikes.

  • Lower Operating Costs: Electric ball valves generally consume power only while actively changing positions. Once fully open or closed, the actuator shuts off internally via limit switches and does not draw continuous power to maintain its state, reducing long-term energy costs.

  • Automation Friendly: These valves integrate effortlessly with control setups ranging from manual switches and digital timers to PLC-based industrial controls, smart home ecosystems, and DIY microcontrollers (like Raspberry Pi).

Electric Ball Valve Materials

Brass Electric Ball Valves

Brass motorized ball valves provide a highly durable, cost-effective, and robust solution for standard residential, commercial, and light industrial plumbing. They are suited for a broad range of operating pressures and temperatures.

Stainless Steel Electric Ball Valves

Constructed from 304 stainless steel, these electric ball valves provide a completely lead-free solution ideal for potable drinking water applications. Stainless steel offers superior durability, higher temperature thresholds, and excellent chemical and corrosion resistance.

UPVC Plastic Electric Ball Valves

UPVC electric ball valves offer lightweight corrosion resistance and absolute compatibility with applications involving harsh media, including salt water, acids, and liquid chemical transfer, while remaining completely safe for potable water systems.

2-Wire Auto Return vs. 3-Wire Control Actuated Valves

2-Wire Auto Return Electric Ball Valves (XR22 Series)

2-wire auto-return models utilize an internal capacitor-assisted system. When electrical power is applied, the valve actuates to its energized position while simultaneously charging the capacitor. Upon a loss of power or signal, the stored energy automatically drives the valve back to its default fail position (Normally Closed). These are highly recommended for safety shutoffs, zone isolation, and fail-safe applications.

3-Wire Electric Ball Valves (XR33 Series)

3-wire control valves allow operators to explicitly command the valve open or closed using a switched control wire. The direct motor-driven actuator remains firmly locked in its last commanded position even if power is completely removed, making it ideal for standard automation loops and complex process control systems.

3-Way Motorized Ball Valves

For configurations requiring flow diversion, mixing, or multi-source distribution, 3-way motorized ball valves provide automated directional management. Utilizing an L-port cutout design, these electrically actuated valves allow a single device to route fluid paths from multiple directions, replacing the need for multiple independent 2-way valves.

Common Applications for Motorized Ball Valves

Thanks to their combination of full-port high flow, anti-water-hammer operation, and zero-power holding state, our motorized valves excel in:

  • Automated main water shutoff systems

  • Smart home and greenhouse water control

  • Agricultural and residential irrigation automation

  • Industrial process liquid control & equipment isolation

  • Commercial plumbing loops and HVAC glycol lines

  • Car wash chemical control and water reclamation

  • Remote flow management in hard-to-reach locations
